Pizza Hut changes its ‘DNA’ ahead of adding 14,000 new drivers

Pizza Hut wants to add a few … well, actually 14,000 … good drivers to its ranks over the next few months, so today the Yum brand’s leadership said it will hire 3,000 delivery drivers every month through the year-end.

Plus, the chain said it has a whole new “DNA” too — as in Delivery Network Algorithm — that will greatly improve delivery accuracy and overall reliability, a news release said.

The algorithm uses technology and multiple information sources to account for delivery variables such as weather, construction and traffic, and then project how long delivery will take. The technology is up and working now for all 6,300 U.S. locations of the chain.

“Our drivers are vitally important to our business, and we want to be the employer of choice for anyone looking to drive,” Pizza Hut U.S. President Artie Starrs said in a news release. “Our plan is to keep drivers busy, efficient and on the road in an effort to best serve our customers. We are only scratching the surface in the territory of services and flexibility that we can offer to those looking to drive.”

It may be, though, that the chain will have stiff competition for those drivers, as a constant stream of new players enters the ready-to-eat meal delivery business. For instance, Amazon apparently has plans to join the fray soon, having recently registered a trademark related to the meal-kit business, which is on an upward trajectory in the foodservice industry.
