Pepsi Launches New Vending Machines
Pepsi is launching digital vending machines that will sell the new brand, Hello Goodness.
Amid the crisis facing the soft drink industry in which consumers have reduced their consumption of sugary drinks, Pepsi is updating its vending machines in order to offer healthy products.
The machines will offer healthier products.
The company is launching dual-temperature machines, offering food and drinks under the new brand “Hello Goodness”. The machines will include healthier beverage products from PepsiCo and from Frito-Lay divisions, including Naked Juice, Lays Oven Baked chips and Sabra hummus.
According to the company, the purpose is to give a new face to an invention that has long been associated with junk food. Although vending machines are still present in many places, they have been discarded in many US schools and elsewhere for health issues. US machine sales decreased 1% to 4,500 million in 2014, according to Euromonitor International.
Customers will be able to use Apple Pay.
.In addition, these new PepsiCo (NYSE: PEP) vending machines will include a digital interface that will enable customers to make purchases with credit cards and Apple Pay.
Pepsi takes the lead
“This is the vending machine of the future. There is an opportunity for us to be leaders with new vending machines and we have a long-term commitment to make that happen,” said Kirk Tanner, CEO of PepsiCo beverages in North America.
This measure is part of a broader effort to provide healthy snacks. Consumers are increasingly avoiding sugary drinks and sweet foods, affecting PepsiCo sales as well as the sales of its competitor, Coca-Cola.
While new technologies and refreshments are helping the recovery of the sector, total sales are still below where they were before the last US recession.
